Start - In the layby on the B1398, DN21 4JT

  • 1
Leave the layby heading south, continuing along the grass verge to the minor road that leads towards Manton village.
  • 2
Continue along the minor road to the point where it bends to the left. There is an open area straight in front with a memorial to the World War One, Manton Airfield.
  • 3
To the left of the memorial, take the steep unmade footpath to Manton. Watch for tripping hazards in the woodland. The path opens onto a short road leading to a T-junction. Turn right there.
  • 4
Continue along this road and pass between a small barn on the left and larger farm buildings on the right. Continue northerly along the farm track until you reach a finger post and bench seat.
  • 5
Turn left down the farm track, then left over a small bridge into the field edge. Turn left again, follow the edge to the right. About halfway, step over an unmarked ditch and continue toward the electricity pylon.
  • 6
Turn left and proceed along the rising incline.
  • 7
Turn right into the village, follow the road through an S-bend to a T-junction. Go uphill to the church gates. A fingerpost marks a footpath beside the drive—follow this path.
  • 8
Follow the path beside the hedge, through two gates. After the second, join the road into the village. Turn right, go up the steep wooded incline, and retrace your steps to the memorial. Continue uphill past the quarry to the main road.
