Thurlow Park and Play Area in Epworth, North Lincolnshire, is a cherished community space with deep historical roots and a wide range of recreational facilities. Originally established in 1920 as a living memorial to the men of Epworth who lost their lives in World War I, the park was created through a community-wide fundraising effort. The land, known as Thurlow Croft, was purchased and developed into a public recreation ground, making Epworth one of the first areas in the county to commemorate its fallen soldiers with a space dedicated to leisure and community wellbeing.

Over the years, Thurlow Park has evolved into a vibrant hub for sports, play, and social activities. It features a modern children’s play area with safety surfacing and equipment designed for various age groups, making it a popular destination for families. The park also includes a multi-sport teen area, tennis courts, a bowls club, and facilities for junior football. These amenities support both casual play and organised sports, encouraging active lifestyles across generations.

The site is also home to the Thurlow Pavilion, which hosts regular events, classes, and meetings for local non-profit and charity groups. This central building enhances the park’s role as a community centre, offering indoor space for gatherings and activities. Additionally, the park supports a pre-school playgroup and a parent-and-toddler group, further reinforcing its importance as a nurturing environment for young children and families.
