The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe is a prominent entertainment venue with a rich and evolving history. Originally constructed in 1931 as a public bath house, the building served the community in its original form for several decades before being repurposed in the 1970s as a performance and events space. Over time, it became a beloved local venue, hosting a wide range of acts from rock bands to comedians and orchestras.
In the early 2000s, the hall underwent a significant transformation. After a brief closure and partial demolition, the venue was completely rebuilt between 2009 and 2011, retaining its original 1931 façade as a nod to its heritage. The new design, commissioned by North Lincolnshire Council, incorporated modern architectural features and environmentally friendly technologies, such as a rainwater harvesting system. The Baths Hall officially reopened in November 2011 with a performance by comedian Bill Bailey, who praised the venue’s traditional concert hall feel blended with modern amenities.
The venue now boasts a flexible capacity of up to 1,800 people with standing room or 1,000 for seated events. It has hosted a wide variety of performances, including music concerts, comedy shows, dance productions, theatre, and conferences. Notable acts over the years have included The Kinks, Status Quo, Ocean Colour Scene, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Baths Hall also served as a vaccination centre, demonstrating its importance as a community asset.
Today, The Baths Hall is operated by North Lincolnshire Council and continues to be a cultural cornerstone of Scunthorpe. Its central location on Doncaster Road makes it easily accessible, and its diverse programming ensures there’s something for everyone—from family-friendly shows to high-profile touring acts. The venue’s blend of historical charm and modern functionality makes it a standout destination in the region’s arts and entertainment scene.
