By day, Café INDIE is a welcoming café run by our youth work team and dedicated young volunteers. We serve freshly prepared food in a relaxed setting, providing a space where community groups, friends and families come together. By evening, the café transforms into an intimate arts venue, hosting live music, poetry nights and exhibitions.
At our core, we are a youth work project. We run a range of programmes for young people, including volunteering opportunities, music development, youth clubs, drop-in sessions and tailored support. Our mission is to empower and uplift through creative engagement and skill-building.
We never forget our purpose — supporting young people is why we exist. The person serving you is likely a volunteer gaining valuable experience, so please show kindness and encouragement. Upstairs, you’ll find a dedicated space for youth work and creativity — an incubator for ideas, growth and progression. Café INDIE isn’t about a genre, it’s about independence.

A not-for-profit community project
We provide work experience, training and youth support for ages 16–25. Our volunteer-led model helps young people build skills, confidence and career prospects. In fact, over 60% go on to paid work. We also run daily drop-ins for ages 13–18 and collaborate with local groups to tackle social issues — serving as a springboard for community development.
Live music and cultural events
From local talent to international acts, our event calendar features original live music across all genres. We’re known for our electric yet respectful crowds, making Café INDIE one of Scunthorpe’s top spots for live entertainment. We also host poetry, visual arts, and social gatherings that celebrate creativity and inclusion.
